Hawkshead Relish are artisan producers of award winning handmade preserves. Originally set up in 1999 by Husband and wife Mark & Maria Whitehead MBE, it all started with a busy café in the centre of Hawkshead where Mark would make a small selection of Chutneys, pickles and preserves to go with the food being served.
Customers would enjoy this so much they would ask for jars to take home, gradually it built and built and they ended up with a range of 2-3 products they were making constantly. In 2001 Foot and Mouth hit and the café suddenly had no customers so Mark decided to start jarring the preserves and took them to local garden centres.
From there, Hawkshead Relish was truly born and this eventually led to the closing of the café to open what is now the Hawkshead Relish Shop. Within a few years, the company had grown from strength to strength and had plenty of local wholesale and retail customers. Today, the small family run business has over 500 UK stockists, sells to 15 countries worldwide and has over 70 Great Taste Awards to their range.
Their ethos remains good quality ingredients with no additives or preservatives. All products are naturally gluten free, nut free and are suitable for vegetarians.
